MOTHERS EXHIBITION at the WOMAN MADE GALLERY, Chicago

Belly (images show front and back) at the MOTHERS Exhibition, Woman Made Gallery in Chicago, November 5 - December 23, 2010.

Artist Statement: This belly sculpture is a post menopausal pondering about aging mother bodies and their lost fertility. Round ripe bellies hold promises of new life. These promises emerge and we become their mothers. Time passes faster than we can anticipate. Fertility ebbs and ends, transforming both the outer belly and the belly within. Spring and summer disappear and we sometimes mourn our expired fertility as our vacated bellies settle in for winter.

SKIN: NATURE'S WRAPPING PAPER at the FULTON STREET GALLERY, Troy NY

These two stoneware sculptures (front and back views shown here) in SKIN: Nature's Wrapping Paper, at the Fulton Street Gallery, Troy NY, in May-June 2008.
Artist Statement: "We are among the newest humans on the timeline of generations that dates back to ancient times. Peer under our fresh wrappings to discover that today's human packages still contain the genetic remnants - fossilized imprints - of our oldest ancestors." Note that the imprinted "fossil" texture on the brown belly is created with sea shells.
