FENCE SHOW SELECT 2008
Photos: Arts Center Gallery, above, and two views of TORSO, stoneware, 15"h.
The Arts Center of the Capital Region in Troy NY has an annual exhibition open to members. The Fence Show SELECT is the juried portion of the exhibition. The show's name originated in 1966 when members' art used to be exhibited on the iron fence surrounding Troy's Washington Park. July 25 - September 12, 2008.
ROCK FACE
My series of rock faces was inspired by the ancient people of the American Southwest. Some call the ancient people Anasazi, while others are offended by the word. A group of these ancient people once lived near Sedona AZ in a five story dwelling in the rock face of a cliff. It is now called Montezuma's Castle. The back view of my rock face sculpture suggests the ruins of a dwelling. Only a bird lives there now.

SKIN: NATURE'S WRAPPING PAPER at the FULTON STREET GALLERY, Troy NY
These two stoneware sculptures (front and back views shown here) in SKIN: Nature's Wrapping Paper, at the Fulton Street Gallery, Troy NY, in May-June 2008.
Artist Statement: "We are among the newest humans on the timeline of generations that dates back to ancient times. Peer under our fresh wrappings to discover that today's human packages still contain the genetic remnants - fossilized imprints - of our oldest ancestors." Note that the imprinted "fossil" texture on the brown belly is created with sea shells.
